This month, I was gifted my very first SCOBY! (Symbiotic culture of bacteria and yeast)
I’d been hearing a lot about Kombucha lately and how it’s incredibly good for us!
So…… when I overheard one of the lovely Mum’s in our Natured Kids Playgroup (Natured Kids Facebook) talking about her home made brew, I was first intrigued, then delighted to find out her SCOBY had babies and we could be one of the lucky ones to adopt one!
The whole time, I found this experience, fascinating and amusing! How can something so gross, make such a delicious and healthy concoction?!
Turned out, it wasn’t so scary after all.. Although, I had to buy sugar for the first time this year!
I decided on Rice Malt Syrup as per Sarah Wilson (link below)
Here’s where I did my research:

Please don’t hesitate to ask if you’re a local (Mornington Peninsula, VIC) and you’re looking to adopt your very first SCOBY!
You can also try Kombucha at Paleo Cafe Mornington Peninsula, as it’s now on tap from Grateful Harvest
and if you’re needing supplies visit Bulk Whole Foods! (Where I get many of my pantry staples, including the RMS I used and a ‘nut milk’ bag to strain the final Kombucha product… (I much prefer it without the floaties!) The also have bottled Kombucha! Just ask.
